G Visa

Similar to visas for ambassadors to the United States, specific visas are carved-out for foreign dignitaries from countries that belong certain international organizations (ie. the United Nations).

G-1 Visa

The G-1 Visa is specifically reserved for designated principal representatives of foreign governments where such governments are members of an international organization entitled to enjoy privileges, exemptions, and immunities as an international organization under the International Organizations Immunities Act. Accredited staff of these representatives, and members of their immediate family, are also entitled to G-1 Visa status.

G-2 Visa

The G-2 Visas are available to “other” accredited representatives of foreign governments where such governments are members of an international organization entitled to enjoy privileges, exemptions, and immunities as an international organization under the International Organizations Immunities Act. Immediate family members of these “other” accredited representatives are also entitled to G-1 Visa status.

G-3 Visa

The G-3 Visas are issued to designated principal representatives of foreign governments that are not members of an international organization entitled to enjoy privileges, exemptions, and immunities as an international organization under the International Organizations Immunities Act. The members of his/her immediate family are also entitled to G-3 Visa status.

G-4 Visa

The G-4 Visas are issued to officers, or employees of such international organizations that are not members of an international organization entitled to enjoy privileges, exemptions, and immunities as an international organization under the International Organizations Immunities Act. The members of these persons’ immediate families may also obtain G-4 Visa status.

G-5 Visa

The G-5 Visas are a catch-all visa status for attendants, servants, and personal employees of any such representative, officer, or employee of international organizations that are not members of an international organization entitled to enjoy privileges, exemptions, and immunities as an international organization under the International Organizations Immunities Act. Members of the immediate families of such attendants, servants, and personal employees may obtain G-5 Visas as well.
